Read the sponsor spot. Keep the stream.
Key the script into OBS on green or blue, or float it under your webcam. Drive it from your phone, which keeps working while OBS, chat or your game has the focus.

Float the script under your webcam, or key it into OBS. Viewers only see it if it is in the scene you broadcast.
Drive it from your phone
Pair your phone as the remote (Pro). It works whatever window has focus, so chat and OBS can stay in front.
Our take, worked out
One rule, one number worked out for this setup, and what we would not spend money or time on.
The rule
Control that ignores focus
Mid-stream, OBS, chat or your game has the focus, so keys and clickers miss the prompter. A phone remote does not.
Worked out
150
Words in a 60-second sponsor read at a streaming pace of about 150 words per minute. Keep each spot in its own section so you can jump to it.
What we would skip
- Putting the keyed script in a scene you broadcast. Use a separate prompter scene on a projector.
- Black as the key colour in a scene with dark hair or shadows.
- A full word-for-word script for the whole stream. Script the intro, sponsor and outro; talk the rest.
Three ways to read on stream
Pick by how many screens you have and how much you want inside OBS.
| Method | Best for | Set-up time | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Floating window under the webcam | One monitor; quick intros and sponsor reads | 1 minute | Free |
| Keyed into OBS, shown on a projector | Seeing the script over your own camera preview | About 10 minutes | Pro |
| Glass rig on the camera | Talking-head streams with a DSLR or mirrorless camera | About 15 minutes | Free (mirror modeMirror mode. A setting that flips the text horizontally so it reads the right way round after reflecting off teleprompter glass.) |
Whichever you choose, keep the text right next to the lens: the closer it sits, the less your eyes move away from viewers. The hardware guide covers glass rigs.

ScrollCue in OBS Studio
The OBS output is a window with just the script on a flat key colour, made to be captured and keyed. It is part of Pro.

How do I add a teleprompter to OBS? #
Capture ScrollCue's OBS window (Window Capture on Windows, macOS Screen Capture on a Mac) and add a Chroma KeyChroma key output (OBS). A prompter view on a solid colour that OBS can key out, so the script floats over your camera feed on your own monitor without appearing in the stream. filter.
- In ScrollCue, open the menu and choose the OBS window, then pick Green or Blue.
- Windows: add a Window Capture source and select the ScrollCue output.
- Mac (macOS 13 or later): add macOS Screen Capture and set it to capture that one window. OBS marks the old Window Capture source as deprecated on these versions.
- Right-click the source, open Filters, add Chroma Key and match the key colour.
How do I hide a teleprompter from my stream? #
Put it in a separate prompter scene and open a projector of that scene; broadcast your normal scenes.
Viewers see only the scene you broadcast. Make a separate Prompter scene with your camera and the keyed script, right-click it and open a Windowed Projector or Fullscreen Projector on the monitor next to your camera. Broadcast your normal scenes; the projector is for your eyes only.
Check it once with a private test stream or a local recording before you go live.
Pick the key colour #
Green by default, blue if you wear green.
Use green unless it appears in your outfit or set, then switch to blue. If the edges of letters look chewed, lower the filter's Similarity rather than raising it, or change the key colour.

Read chat beside your script
Open your chat in its own window and ScrollCue shows it in a panel next to the script. You read both, and neither sits on top of the other. It works with any chat you can open in a window or tab.

How do I see my stream chat while reading a script? #
Open your chat in its own window and choose Window beside script in ScrollCue. It appears in a panel next to the script.
- Open your chat in its own window: Twitch's Popout Chat, YouTube Live's Pop-out chat, Kick's pop-out chat, or a chat tool's own window.
- In ScrollCue, open the menu and choose Window beside script, then pick that chat window.
- The script narrows and the chat appears in a panel beside it. Hover the panel to move it left or right, change its width or close it.
The chat is shown from your own screen, live, like any screen share. ScrollCue does not sign in to your channel or read your messages.
Which chats can I show beside my teleprompter? #
Any you can open in a window or tab: Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, Restream, StreamYard, Discord and more.
Because it shows a window rather than connecting to one platform, it works with whatever you stream on:
- Streaming platforms: Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, Facebook Live, TikTok LIVE and others, through their chat window or creator tools.
- Multi-stream tools: a combined chat from Restream, StreamYard or a similar studio, in one window for every platform.
- Community: a Discord channel, a mod chat or a producer's notes.
- Anything else: alerts, a donation list, a run of show or a timer.
Why beside, not behind #
Two layers of text are hard to read.
ScrollCue can also put a shared screen behind the script, which suits slides or gameplay. For chat that you need to read, a separate panel is clearer: the script keeps its own column, and the chat stays sharp at full brightness.
Watch chat beside the script
Ten seconds: your stream chat in a panel next to the script.

An alternative to Elgato's Chat mode
Elgato Prompter can show Twitch chat through Camera Hub. If you want chat and your script together, on any platform, without new hardware, ScrollCue does it in the browser. Here is a fair side-by-side.
| ScrollCue: window beside script | Elgato Prompter: Chat mode | |
|---|---|---|
| What you need | A browser on the screen you already have | An Elgato Prompter on your camera, plus Camera Hub 1.8 or later |
| Chat platforms | Any chat you can open in a window or tab: Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, Restream, StreamYard, Discord | Twitch, according to Elgato's help article |
| Script and chat | Side by side, at the same time | Text and Chat are separate content modes in Camera Hub |
| Where you read | On your monitor, or on any glass rig showing ScrollCue | On the Prompter's own screen, right in front of the lens |
| Extras | Phone remote, voice followVoice follow. A prompter mode that listens to you and scrolls to match your speech, holding its place when you pause or paraphrase. In ScrollCue it runs on your device and is part of Pro., OBS output, recording | Several saved channels; switch them from a Stream Deck |
| Cost | Free prompter; chat panel on Pro from $4.99 a day | Comes with the Prompter hardware |
They also work together: Elgato Prompter's Display mode turns it into a second monitor, so you can show ScrollCue on it, chat panel included, and read both right in front of the lens. Setup in the hardware guide; Elgato details from Elgato Prompter Chat Mode, checked 1 Nov 2026.

Control it without alt-tabbing
During a stream, OBS, chat or your game has the focus. Plan for that.

How do I scroll a teleprompter while streaming? #
With a phone remote, which works even when OBS, chat or a game has focus.
Keyboard shortcuts and clickers act on the window that has focus, so they stop reaching ScrollCue the moment you click into chat or a game. The phone remote talks to the prompter directly over your Wi-Fi, so play, pause, speed and section jumps work no matter what is in front. It is part of Pro.
A producer or moderator can drive it #
Hand the remote to someone else.
If a producer runs your show, they can pair their phone instead and follow you, so you never touch the controls. The phone's Script tab shows the same script in sync, so they know exactly where you are.
Clickers and pedals #
Good when ScrollCue has focus.
A Bluetooth clicker or foot pedal works well for recorded segments or a set where the prompter window keeps the focus. ScrollCue reads Page Down, Page Up and the arrow keys, and you can remap buttons in Clicker & pedal.

Sponsor reads and segments
A stream is mostly unscripted. The scripted parts are short, and they have to be right.
01How long is a 60-second sponsor read?02Intros, outros and schedule03Pause while you talk to chatRead the full guideShow less
How long is a 60-second sponsor read? #
About 150 words at 150 words per minute.
Sponsors often supply talking points or required wording. Put them in their own ## Sponsor section so you can jump to it when the moment comes, and add [[link in chat]] or [[show code on screen]] as private reminders. At about 150 words per minute, a 60-second spot is roughly 150 words.
Intros, outros and schedule #
The parts you say every stream.
Keep a standing script with your intro, rules, schedule and outro, each in its own section. Jump to the one you need, read it, and go back to talking freely. Scripts stay in your browser, so it is there next stream.
Pause while you talk to chat #
Pick up where you stopped.
Pause the scroll when you answer chat or play, then press play to carry on from the same line. With voice follow on, the script moves only while you read it and waits when you go off script.

Can I use a teleprompter in OBS? #
Yes. Open ScrollCue's OBS window, capture it in OBS (Window Capture on Windows, macOS Screen Capture on a Mac) and add a Chroma Key filter. The OBS output is part of Pro.
Will my viewers see the teleprompter? #
Only if the keyed script sits in a scene you broadcast. Keep it in a separate prompter scene shown on a projector, or simply float the script by your webcam outside OBS.
How do I control a teleprompter while streaming? #
Use your phone as the remote. Keyboard shortcuts and clickers only reach the window that has focus, but the phone remote works whatever app is in front.
Does it work for Twitch and YouTube Live? #
Yes. ScrollCue never touches your stream: it is a window you read from, captured into OBS only if you choose to.
Can I read Twitch chat and my script at the same time? #
Yes, with Pro. Open Twitch's Popout Chat, then choose Window beside script in ScrollCue and pick the chat. It shows in a panel next to the script, so you read both without switching windows.
Does it work with YouTube, Kick or other chats? #
Yes. It shows any window or tab you choose, so it works with YouTube Live's pop-out chat, Kick, Facebook Live, a Restream or StreamYard chat, Discord or anything else you can open in a window.
Is there an alternative to Elgato Prompter's Chat mode? #
Yes. ScrollCue shows any chat window beside your script in the browser, for Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick or any other platform, with no extra hardware. If you own an Elgato Prompter, you can also run ScrollCue on it in Display mode.
How long is a 60-second sponsor read? #
About 150 words at a typical streaming pace of 150 words per minute.
Is there a free teleprompter for streaming? #
Yes. The prompter and the floating window are free, with no account and no watermark. OBS output and the phone remote are part of Pro: $4.99 for 24 hours or $99 a year.
