Quick answer

ScrollCue ORP mode flashes each word at the Optimal Recognition Point so your eye finds it instantly. Rehearse scripts at 400+ WPM before filming.

What is ORP?

The Optimal Recognition Point is the character position in a word where the human eye gains the most reading information most quickly. For most words it falls slightly left of centre. When text is aligned to this point and presented one word at a time, the eye does not need to move — it stays fixed while the words flash past.

ORP mode in ScrollCue flashes your script one word at a time, each aligned to its recognition point, at a speed you control. At 300–400 WPM — twice the pace of normal reading — most people can follow comfortably after a few minutes of practice.

How creators use ORP mode

Script internalization before filming

Run through your script once at 300 WPM in ORP mode before your first take. The rhythm and phrasing of sentences gets into your memory faster than reading normally.

Catching awkward phrasing

ORP mode makes clunky sentences obvious. If a phrase causes you to stumble even in speed-read, it will definitely cause stumbles on camera. Rewrite it.

Timing estimation

Count how many ORP passes it takes to feel comfortable with a section. If it takes more than three passes, the section is probably too dense or too formally written for on-camera delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What WPM should I use for ORP mode?

Start at 200 WPM and increase gradually. Most people find 300–350 WPM comfortable for script internalization. Above 400 WPM is useful for very familiar material.

Is ORP mode the same as reading on camera?

No. ORP mode is for rehearsal only — flashing one word at a time on screen while you film would look unusual. Use voice scroll or smooth scroll for actual recording.

Does ORP mode work with voice scroll?

No. ORP mode flashes words at a fixed rate you control. It does not use the microphone. Switch back to voice scroll or smooth scroll for recording.
