Why iPad is the best consumer teleprompter device
A phone works at arm's length, but an iPad changes the geometry. The larger screen lets you use a bigger font from further away — so your eyes move less and your delivery looks more natural. For DSLR setups and glass teleprompter rigs, an iPad is as close as most creators get to a professional confidence monitor without spending thousands.

Setup in 4 steps
- 1
Open Safari on your iPad
Navigate to scrollcue.com in Safari. Voice scroll uses Safari's built-in speech recognition — no app download needed.
- 2
Paste your script and set font size
Use 56–64px for a DSLR setup at 1–2 metres. Use 48–56px for a webcam setup at closer range. Set column width to narrow so lines are short and your eye doesn't travel far.
- 3
Enable mirror mode if using a glass rig
Tap the mirror icon to flip text horizontally. This is required for glass beam-splitter setups where the text is reflected toward the camera.
- 4
Position the iPad below your lens
For webcam setups, prop the iPad flat below the lens. For DSLR setups, mount it on the tripod plate below the camera. The closer the script is to the lens, the less visible your eye movement.
iPad model comparison for teleprompter use
iPad mini
The smallest iPad. Works well at close range (40–60cm) but the smaller screen limits how large you can make the font at distance. Better than a phone at the same distance.
iPad (standard, 10th gen)
The best all-round choice. Large enough screen for DSLR setups at 1 metre. Light enough to mount on a tripod arm without counterweighting.
iPad Air
Same display size as the standard iPad with a thinner profile. Good for glass rigs where weight and thickness matter.
iPad Pro 11-inch
Excellent display quality and ProMotion refresh rate make scrolling extremely smooth. The best choice for professional glass rig setups.
iPad Pro 12.9-inch
The largest screen. Use at 1.5–2 metres with 64–72px font. Closest consumer equivalent to a professional confidence monitor.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the iPad good for teleprompter use?
The iPad's large display means you can read at a bigger font size from further away, which reduces eye movement and makes your delivery look more natural. It is the closest consumer device to a professional confidence monitor.
Can I use my iPad with a glass teleprompter rig?
Yes. Enable mirror mode in ScrollCue to flip text horizontally — standard for glass beam-splitter setups. The iPad brightness and screen quality make it well-suited for glass rigs.
Can I control my iPad teleprompter remotely?
Yes. ScrollCue Pro generates a QR code. Scan from any phone on the same Wi-Fi and you get full remote control including play, pause, speed, and section jumping from across the room.
What font size should I use on an iPad?
Use 56–72px for a DSLR setup at 1–2 metres. Use 48–56px for a webcam at closer range. The goal is to read without visibly moving your eyes.
Which iPad model is best for teleprompter use?
The standard iPad (10th generation) is the best value. The iPad Pro 12.9-inch gives the largest display for professional glass rig setups at distance.
