ScrollCue voice scroll uses the Web Speech API to advance the script at your speaking pace automatically. Free on Chrome and Safari. No subscription.
How voice scroll works
Voice scroll uses the Web Speech API built directly into Chrome and Safari. There is no external service, no transcription upload, and no server involved. Your microphone audio never leaves your device.
When you speak, the browser detects words in real time and ScrollCue advances the script to match. When you stop speaking — to breathe, think, or pause for effect — the script stops too. Resume speaking and it picks up exactly where you left off.
Setup
- 1
Open scrollcue.com in Chrome or Safari
Voice scroll works in Chrome on desktop, Chrome on Android, and Safari on iPhone and iPad. It does not work in Firefox or other browsers.
- 2
Paste your script
Type or paste your content into the script area. Voice scroll works best with scripts written in natural spoken English — short sentences, contractions, no formal language.
- 3
Tap the microphone icon
Allow microphone access when the browser prompts. Voice scroll activates immediately. Start speaking and watch the script follow your pace.
- 4
Do a 30-second test take
Deliver a short passage and watch how the script tracks. Adjust your speaking pace — most people find 130–150 WPM works best for natural on-camera delivery.
Tips for best results
Speak at a steady pace
Voice scroll is most accurate at 120–160 WPM. Very fast or very slow delivery can cause it to drift. Use smooth scroll for rehearsal to dial in your pace.
Use a quiet environment
Background noise — music, fans, other voices — reduces accuracy. A directional microphone close to your mouth improves tracking significantly.
Write short sentences
Sentences over 20 words give the speech recognition engine more opportunity to lose sync. Keep sentences under 15 words for best tracking.
Allow microphone before you start
Granting microphone access while speaking causes a brief gap. Always enable voice scroll before you begin your take.
Use a lavalier or cardioid mic
The built-in laptop microphone picks up keyboard noise and room reflections. Any dedicated microphone — even a $20 USB model — improves accuracy.
